Light in The Well House......... | Homesteading Forum
My well pipe froze a few weeks back when we had a 10-degree night... blocked the gap under the door (duh!), put a blanket on the pipe where it comes out of the well casing, and turned on the light which is a 40W bulb under the roof.

How Long to Try and Revive Baby Rabbits? - Homesteading Forum
I brought them inside with her fur and some hay and held each baby in warm water for a few minutes, dried them, and put them in a basket under an incandescent light bulb. They've been in that basket maybe 90 minutes. I'm guessing they are most likely dead, but I don't know how long this usually takes so I figured I'd ask just to make sure.

water well heat in cold weather - Homesteading Forum
But, instead of an incandescent bulb you may want to consider a 220-volt LED bulb. LED bulbs give off heat and are generally rated to have a 25,000 hour lifetime. I was under the impression that a light bulb uses the watts of electricity to produce light and heat. A CFL uses half the electricity to produce the same amount of light as an ...

How to heat a chicken coop ? | Homesteading Forum
Mine regularly go thru minus teen temps and have tolerated a few -35F. No problems. I keep an incandescent bulb on a timer to stimulate egg production. It generate heat, but they prefer to roost away from it, not near it.

over-looked energy saving devices | Homesteading Forum
It is also the torche lamp style and I bounce light off of the ceiling much of the time. Bathroom lighting is via ceiling fixture with 60 watt incandescent bulb. I consider it an in and out fixture that is not on very long at a time. Over the medicine cabinet is a fixture which as four CF bulbs in it of small wattages.

Storage in a non-working freezer - Homesteading Forum
I wouldn't prop a door open. Invites mice/creepy crawlies to ruin/eat your hard work. If you have harsh winters (0* or below for long periods), I wouldn't trust the lightbulb to keep things stored in glass from freezing. I, too store feed in an old freezer. Keeps the domestic critters out of it as well!

Does anyone use diesel in their lamps? - Homesteading Forum
Way brighter than a Coleman lantern. It supposedly has the lighting equivalent to a 400-watt incandescent light bulb. The photo below is of our PetroMax in our one-room cabin. The lantern is hung using wire cable and a pulley system for lowering. It lights up the entire cabin bright enough so one could read a book in any corner of the cabin.

Does anyone know why this Aladdin Lamp isn't burning properly?
The new mantle should put out light equivalent to a 40-watt incandescent light bulb. So, at night, you might want to make a comparison between your lamp and a light bulb. The old Aladdin mantles, which contain radioactive Thorium, would put out light equivalent to a 60-watt light bulb.

250 watt heat lamp warning - Homesteading Forum
Never have I seen a brooder that needs a 250 watt heat bulb, not even a 150/175 heat bulb. I wonder why some will have 20 chicks in a brooder with a 250 watt heat bulb 3 ft above the brooder----such a waste and very dangerous.
